Supreme Court Blocks New Eviction Moratorium
The Supreme Court on Thursday lifted the most recent federal ban on evictions, according to the Wall Street Journal. The current ban was set to be in place until October 3rd, but in Thursday’s unsigned opinion, the court said the temporary ban exceeded the CDC’s authority to combat communicable diseases, forcing landlords to bear the pandemic’s costs. Thursday’s decision, while not a final step in the litigation, points to the end of White House efforts to provide renters with financial assistance.
